Wikileaks India: Tackle US meddling in India, says Narendra Modi

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said here today (22nd March 2011) that the central government should address the issue of US interference in the internal affairs of India. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event here, he said the "government of India should address the issue of American interference" in Indian affairs. He also reacted to latest WikiLeaks disclosures, which quote Michael S. Owen, the US consul general in 2006, as saying that the chief minister was an efficient administrator. Modi said he met Owens in Mumbai, where they discussed Gujarat.

"I looked into his eyes and said do not preach... I am a son of India, I know what human rights violations you have done. Good that the dialogue has been faithfully reproduced," Modi said.

He added that now even the US knows that he is incorruptible.

"WikiLeaks shows two faces - one that of the government of India and the other of progressive Gujarat," he said. (IANS
