IAA 2011: Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4

We were hoping to see a replacement for the Gallardo supercar in Frankfurt but instead, Lamborghini showed us yet another limited edition version of its entry-level model.Billed as the most extreme Gallardo ever, the new LP 570-4 Super Trofeo is loosely based on the race car from the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo and will be produced in a limited run of 150 units.
The Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale has undergone a diet and lost 70kg (154 lbs) over the standard model tipping the scales at 1340kg (2,954 pounds).
Power comes from the same V10 powerplant found in the Superleggera as well as the Blancpain Super Trofeo racer, developing 570-horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 540Nm at 6,500 rpm (398.2 lb-ft). A robotized e-gear six-speed transmission controlled by steering wheel paddles transfers power to all four wheels.
It sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in 3.4 seconds and reaches 200 km/h (124mph) 10.4 seconds later while it finally tops out at 320 Km/h (199mph).
On the outside, the Super Trofeo Stradale sports a contrasting matte black finish on certain details such as the front spoiler and rear wing while it rides on ultra-lightweight 19-inch wheels that save some 13kg (29 pounds).
The rocker panel covers, rear diffuser and outside mirror housings are made of carbon fiber polished to a high gloss, while the brake calipers are accented in red, first for Lamborghini.
The two-tone theme continues in the cabin that is dressed in Alcantara and carbon fiber trims.
Lamborghini also offers an extensive list of options that will satisfy both the hardcore aficionados with carbon-fiber ceramic brake discs, a tubular interior roll cage, 4-point safety belts and fire extinguisher, as well as the casual buyer with a satellite navigation, with Bluetooth connection for mobile phones, an anti-theft system, and a lifting system that raises the front axle.

IAA 2011: New Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale

One simple word at Lamborghini’s invitation to the 64th Frankfurt Motor Show should have given us a clue about the kind of car the Sant’ Agata manufacturer would unveil at this year’s IAA. The key word was “racing”, and that is exactly what Lamborghini will present, the most hardcore Gallardo ever built. And it doesn’t get any more hardcore than a street-legal version of a racing car.
Named the Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale, the special edition model is based on the race cars that participate in the one-make Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo championship.
Of course, we’ve lost count of the limited editions of the Gallardo that we’ve seen in the past couple of years. So what makes this one different from the rest, apart from the fact that it will be produced in only 150 units?
Well, for starters there is the engine: the V10’s output reaches 570HP at 8,000 rpm and 540 Nm (398.2 lb-ft) of torque at 6,500 rpm, while the different firing order of the cylinders is said to make the engine sound like a thoroughbred racing unit.
The Super Trofeo Stradale’s uprated V10, along with a reduced weight of 1,340 kg, enables the latest version of the Gallardo to sprint from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.4 seconds and 200 km/h (125 mph) only 10.4 seconds later, while its top speed is rated at 320 km/h (200 mph).
Like the racecar, the street version uses an electronically controlled six-speed semi-automatic gearbox controlled by steering-wheel mounted paddles that powers all four wheels that are wrapped around Pirelli P-Zero Corsa-shod. The Trofeo Stradale also features a “Thrust Mode” for maximum acceleration from a standstill – in other words, Lamborghini’s version of a launch control system.
Like the Superleggera, the Trofeo Stradale’s suspension and steering are tuned for giving the driver the closest experience to a racecar possible. Braking is taken care by 365 and 356 mm front and rear discs respectively, with 380 and 356 mm carbon-ceramic brakes. A tubular roll cage, four-point seat belts and a fire extinguisher also feature on the options list.
On the outside, the Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale is finished in a brand new “Rosso Mars” red paint that is said to symbolize Italy’s traditional racing red of the beginning of last century’s motor racing when different colors stood for different nations. If you don’t like red there’s also “Grigio Telesto” grey and “Bianco Monocerus” white and, as an option, you can have the roof in gloss black paint.
The Trofeo Stradale also features a matte black finish on the large, race-inspired rear spoiler, the easily removed engine hood and the air intakes while the rear diffuser, mirror housings and rocker panels are made of carbon fiber.
Further allusions to motorsport include the carbon fiber seats and the Alcantara-sweathed interior that covers almost everything, from steering wheel to the underside of the dashboard, but there are also optionally available amenities like a satellite navigation with Bluetooth connection for mobile phones, an anti-theft system, and a lifting system that raises the front axle.

Video: Canadian Police Confiscate 13 Supercars after Youngsters Speed Race

Ocean’s 13 got away with stealing diamonds, earning millions of cash and ruining their adversary’s life. British Columbia’s 13, 12 young men and one woman, all under 21 years old, got away with racing each other, reaching speeds of over 125 mph (200 km/h) on a metro Vancouver highway with a $196 fine each.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police announced that the cars impounded had a combined value of $2 million. These are the supercars that were temporarily seized:

  • 2007 Ferrari 599
  • 2010 Lamborghini Gallardo
  • 2010 Lamborghini Gallardo
  • 2009 Lamborghini Gallardo
  • 2009 Audi R8
  • 2012 Nissan GT-R
  • 2010 Nissan GT-R
  • 2010 Nissan GT-R
  • 2010 Maserati Turismo
  • 2010 Maserati Turismo
  • 2011 Mercedes SL63
  • 2011 Mercedes SLS
  • 2005 Aston Martin DB9
According to a police report, two drivers would block traffic behind them by running side-by-side clearing the road ahead, while the rest would race each other.
“These drivers seemed to be looking for attention. Well, they definitely got the attention of the police” commented Lower Mainland District Regional Police Service spokeswoman, Cpl. Holly Marks.
However, the 13 offenders, of which only was the registered owner of the vehicle he was driving, will get away just with the ticket after being charged with “driving without reasonable consideration.” That’s because they didn’t actually get caught on the act, but the police acted on reports based from eye witnesses.
According to the Vancouver Star, if the police had been able to charge them with more sever offenses, they could have forfeited their vehicles!
Now, the young drivers will only have to pay the ticket and the costs of towing and storing their cars, which were impounded for seven days.
Guess when you drive a 599 Fiorano, a Gallardo or an SLS AMG, after this punishment you’ll just laugh your way to the impound yard…

McLaren Preparing New Models Including an MP4-12C Cabrio and a Lamborghini Aventador Rival

When the launch of your first and your second road models are separated by close to two decades (19 years to be exact), then you hardly qualify as a car manufacturer.
That is the case with McLaren: production of the extraordinary F1 begun in 1992 and stopped almost 100 cars later in 1998. Deliveries of its second production model, the MP4-12C, have just begun. Therefore, McLaren may be a big name in Formula 1, but it lacks Ferrari’s cache and experience in production models.
The Woking-based company plans to change this –and soon. The MP4-12C is just the first of a range of supercars that McLaren Automotive plans to launch in the next years –hence the new £40m ($63 million) McLaren Production Center factory and the brand’s rapidly expanding dealership network around the world.
Furthermore, as we reported, the company is planning to spend no less than $1 billion in the next few years to develop its new range. The brand’s managing director Anthony Sheriff said that McLaren has already spent £250 million ($400 million) in building 73 MP4-12C prototypes and covering more than 625,000 miles (1.0 million km) in development.
Obviously, you don’t make this kind of investment for just one model. McLaren even built eight crash prototypes to ensure that the carbon fiber monocell tub met all global safety standards.
That’s because it will underpin not just the MP4-12C, but all future McLaren models which will also feature a mid-engine layout. It may cost more to develop, but in the end, it proves more economical because you don’t have to invest in developing a new chassis or tooling equipment.
The 3.8-liter V8, 600HP MP4-12C, code-named P11, is positioned in the middle of McLaren’s range, rivaling models such as Ferrari’s 458 Italia and Lamborghini’s Gallardo. So far, it has proven a worthy, and in the track at least more capable, adversary. Moreover, McLaren made some last minute changes.
According to a report from Motor Trend, the next model in McLaren’s range bears the code-name P12 and is placed above the MP4-12C, as a successor to the 1992 F1 and a rival to hypercars such as Lamborghini’s Aventador.
It will deliver 800HP or possibly even more, but its weight will be similar to that of the MP4-12C because it will use carbon fiber in the crash structures and the body panels, which in the 12C are made of aluminum.
It will also feature more aerodynamic and electronic aids, such as active aero and brake steer, making sure that the handling matches the performance.
The P12 will be followed by the P13, placed below the MP4-12C and intended to rival cars such as the Porsche 911 Turbo and Audi’s V10 R8.
Each model will also have different variants: for example, the 12C already has the GT3 racing version, and an open top is on the designing board. Sheriff insists that all new cars “will be true McLarens. Everything we do will have performance and handling that’s the best in its segment.”
How many cars does McLaren intend to make? Its annual capacity doesn’t exceed 4,000 units. So if you subtract the 1,300 MP4-12Cs and, as sources within the company claim, 2,500 P13s, that leaves just 200 of the top of the line P12 per year.
When can we expect the new McLarens? Sooner than you’d think: the P12 is said to be shown in 2013, and the P13 just one year later.

Lamborghini "New Supercar Model" at Frankfurt Motor Show

What is claimed to be an official press invitation from Lamborghini for the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in the form of an image that was allegedly sent through email is making the internet rounds today.

The invitation reads: "Discover a new Lamborghini super sports car at the next Frankfurt Motor Show. Press conference 13/09/11, 12:45, Lamborghini stand at IAA."
We can't be 100 percent sure about its authenticity, but if real, it raises the question what will this new "Lamborghini super sports car" be? The answer could be anything from the production version of the evil-looking Sesto Elemento and either a roadster or a more extreme version of the new Aventador, or perhaps a different concept model altogether. Follow the jump to share your thoughts in the comments section.
